SPAIN, SPAIN, SPAIN

With a cool first touch and calculated, sublime finish, Andres Iniesta has ended Spain's under-achieving once and for all.  It's hard to believe in certain respects, that Spain finally lived up to expectations, finishing off a World Cup in which not enough teams came to play winning football.   There were far too many teams wanting to avoid losing.  Spain might even be put into this category, though their brand of not-losing football involved possession and plenty of attractively arranged passing triangles.  And this is the vision of football's future.  The loss of directness, of guile and certainly, of Route One.
