Czech Republic - Portugal

A marvelous match.  And Deco actually scored...imagine!  It wasn't attractive, but it got Portugal off to a fine start.  The Czechs did a fine job of simply taking the ball away from the more technically gifted Portugal most of the night; fun to watch Ronaldo do a bunch of step overs only to have Rozehnal step in and extract the ball from the feather-like feet of the Man U poster boy.  For all his flash, Ronaldo did score and did create so fairplay to him.  We here at GK give him a hard time, but he played well, despite the unnecessary step overs.  The Czechs created and asked heir questions of a Portuguese back four that at times looked not unlike Newcastle in defense.  Sionko was a stand out for the Czechs, menacing all evening.  If the Czechs ever get Baros connecting, they would be right there.  We think they are going to be good enough to go through with Portugal.  If so, should the hulking mass of Koller replace Baros?  I don't think so.  Baros possesses the speed and cunning needed in the final eight.  He narrowly missed on a couple of chances and generally caused angst for the Portugeuse back four.  Koller causes angst in a different way, not unlike Godzilla caused angst to the god people of Tokyo.
